Two videos of the webkit web browser and the mediaplayer running on the neo
It’s been a while since my last update, and though it can seem like the openmoko-project is at a standstill, I’ll assure you, it is not. Trolltech has scrapped their greenphone and are using the neo as their development platform [1][2][3],

Qtopia, the trolltech alternative to openmoko’s software is already running on the neo, although with some small problems. The openmoko software has matured somewhat in the past few months, but still has a long way to go. There are a few thing that need attention before it is usable for the general public; power consumption, gsmd, gps, general stability.. The goal is to have the consumer version aka GTA02 ready by christmas [4], and I sincerely hope the software is in better shape in a few months. The GPS has changed to an u-blox/atmel product because of some “lawyerisms”, this will surely gain the community, but FIC/openmoko: please don’t forget all of us that has an GTA01Bv4, we still need the GPS-driver and an upgrade to the GSM-firmware to get rid of the evil #666 bug
It’s not all bad though.. some developers are already making apps [5][6]

As the software is getting better and more software is available, the more developers will come. If you know of any apps that deserve some attention, please let us know, either through the wiki, #openmoko on freenode or this site.
Remember, the “killer-app” is yet to be written
the first “iphone-feature” is on the neo ![]()

This is possible using gtk+ 2.10.14, cairo 1.4.10 and xserver-kdriver 1.3.0.0.
so.. I´m still waiting my neo, but the good news is that people around the world is getting their phones.
this means that we should begin to see the fruits of OSS soon.
it seems like nobody has gotten their phones yet, or even heard much from openmoko.
While we wait, let’s explore some of the artwork. First the sounds:
Ringtones:
Goodnight
Ringnroll
Simple02
Squirrels
Supertux
Tereisnophone
Sms:
supertux
Other:
startup
All tunes have been composed in Rosegarden (an OpenSource MIDI sequencer available at www.rosegardenmusic.com), rendered on a Yamaha Motif ES tone generator and recorded using Audacity or Ardour.
These are ‘Work in progress’ and the TODO states that some changes and additions are welcome/being worked at.
OPENMOKO SOUNDS - TODO LIST
Feel free to add your own comments or requests here.
Changes:
-There Is No Phone and Ring'n'Roll are too silent compared to the
others. The ending of Ring'n'Roll needs more treble since the low
frequencies are hardly audible on the small speaker.
-The transition parts in Squirrels and Supertux don't work well;
they're too silent so that it sounds as if the phone has stopped
ringing if it's carried in a pocket or lying around at a distance.
-Notify sounds should be shorter and less intrusive. Maybe reducing
the volume will already help.
Additions:
-Startup will have a voice saying "Welcome to OpenMoko" mixed into it.
-Themes of matching tones for sms, notify, error, ringtone, etc.
-More sounds.
The sounds are released under the CreativeCommons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 license. anyone know of any good sources for CC-lisenced sounds?
